La Faîs’sie d’ Cidre (Jersey Cider Festival)

18 – 19 October 2014

You should already know that Jersey’s biggest export is their sumptuous Jersey Royal potatoes, but originally Jersey’s biggest export was apples!

To celebrate Jersey’s rich heritage of apple growing the Hamptonne Country Life Museum in St Lawerence is celebrating La Fas’sie d’Cidre (Jersey Cider Festival) .

Taking place on the 18th October from 10am to 7pm and 19th October from 10am to 5pm, there is entertainment throughout the day from live music to games, activities, arts and crafts. However the highlight of the festival has to be the demonstration of the traditional cider press where they use a horse drawn press to squash the apples to a pulp and extract the juices for cider making and other such seasonal treats.

Prices are from £7.90 per adult and £5.00 per child. It’s a great family day out, set inside the stunning Hamptonne grounds which date back to the 15th Century, where the house and farm are brought to life with characters from the Island’s past.
