Jersey International Motor Festival, 5-8 June 2014

Jersey International Motor FestivalFrom 5 to 8 June the roar of engines will ring out throughout the island as it’s the RUBiS Jersey International Motor Festival which sees many drivers flock from near and far to take part in this unique and exhilarating festival.

The event started just after the Second World War as there was no motor racing in Britain due to the fact that most courses were severely damaged by bombs. It was decided that a street circuit in Jersey could be used for Grand Prix races however these were not championship events. Even back then the event attracted racers and spectators from all over the world, as it was one of the rare international sports to recover in the post war years.

The event is now run by the “Classic & Vintage Motor Racing Club Of Jersey” and there is certainly lots to see and do during the festival!

There is the Channel Islands’ largest static motor show when the race drivers and other enthusiasts each display their pride and joy for all to see and admire.

As well as the show there are three different races taking place over the festival. There is the ‘Touring Event’ where you will see many vintage and classic modern cars taking on the winding streets and roads of Jersey, each trying to post the best possible time. Then there is the ‘Hill Climb Event’ where the cars are really pushed to their limits, trying to conquer Jersey’s steep twists and turns. Finally there is the ‘Sprint Event’ where the whole name of the game is overall power and speed to show which car and driver is the fastest.

The Motor Festival is open to all to view and is fun for all the family with lots to see and do. What started out as a rebirth of British Motor Sport after the war has now become a highlight in the Jersey calender and a nostalgic event for all.
